How can I accessorize my prom dress creatively?

Nami Suiteheart asked:

I bought my prom dress recently and now that it’s getting closer to prom, I was trying to find what shoes to wear or what jewelry to wear.

It’s a black mermaid dress, and it has a gothic-victorian look to it. I want to bring out this gothic-victorian look, but I’m not sure how without being too cheesy.

What should I accessorize with to do this?
And should I do my hair a certain way to make it even more authentic?
It’s strapless.

you should wear your hair in a very loose low bun, maybe if there is extra material from your dress use it to make a headband! if its strapless id say just earrings.. simple shoes too. have fun!

do darkish make up with diamonds or fake diamonds as jewellry for ur necklace and bracelet and earings, then get your hair done up with curls in a bun

Wear brightly colored shoes and accessories. Since your dress is black, use accessories that will make you stand out! If its victorian, you should have your hair pulled up.

to get one-of – a kind pieces go vintage or even antique, some places even like goodwill have cool old pieces that will spice up your dress!!!

Strapless. I would Wear some Bold Earrings ( just according to how much detail the dress has on it already) Keep it minimal. Simple is always more elegant.Your hair- If your dress has alot of glitz – then wear your hair straight with a brooch or cute pins to pull it back some. But if there is not alot of detail do something more bold – an up-do to show off your earrings. You could do something with a small feather in your hair. Like a deep purple color or something to off-set the black. Hope I could help you & have fun!

    Pictures would help..

But your dress sounds dramatic, so you should do a dramatic makeup, with pulled back hair in a braided bun, or long and wavy to easily romance the dress.

Here is some nice makeup :

    Some cute examples

All in all, have fun, keep it minimal and true to you, focus on what you have as an asset, if you have pretty hair, keep it down and play up the shine, if you have full lips, use the make up idea..
    :)

You know, It would kind of be cool if you wore combat boots of some sort. you can go for an Evanescence-concertish kind of look. And do an elegant up-sweep of some kind and wear like those long over-the-elbow gloves or something =]

And then a really rocky but like chunky piece of jewelry. To be like the signature piece. And maybe just some simple (possibly silver colored?) dangling earrings? just to add some more.

And do your eye makeup black and smokey =]. I think that would look really cute. And dark red lipstick perhaps. Depends what you’re wearing. What color or whatever . . .

Or you can wear a cross necklace! :D Or a rosary! :D Or wrap a rosary around your arm-glove covered wrist =D

    Use red to Accessories it.

A red ribbon around your dress?

Try a birdcage veil look for black, with a red rose in it. Play with is make it shorter than the average one. It is classic, and will go awesome with the gothic theme.

A black choker with red rose would look awesome!!
