From what I have heard, the actress who played Carrie acctually did not wash off the blood in between scenes, she even did not wash off the blood for days. She slept in it and did not shower, gross I know but it was like that to make sure nothing changed. So the scene looked real.
It’s the red lights on her white dress that gives the illusion of her looking soaked. Or maybe something they did on purpose while she was killing everyone to make things seem more intense.
