I would hate to have to worry about getting a train dirty, rather than enjoying the special occasion that calls for formal dress. Consider removing the train, cutting the train, or wearing a different dress. Life is too short to worry about dirty trains.

If there is not a way to raise the train, sew a "hook and eye" (available at any store that sells fabric or sewing supplies) onto the dress. You can drape the train beautifully and literally "hook" it into place.

Have you considered spraying on some scotchgaurd? I would first ask about this problem and this possible solution, with someone who sells fine dresses.

Most wedding gowns with trains, for instance, have a tiny little button sewn on the back of the dress...and a loop on the train....in order to put it up just for this purpose.
